Commercial Sexual Exploitation

NCYL seeks to end the commercial sexual exploitation (CSE) of children and youth – also referred to as child sex trafficking – and support children, youth, families and caregivers affected by CSE experience safety and healing so that they may achieve their goals. We work to research, identify, develop and implement policies and practices that achieve collective systems change.

Center Youth
NCYL works with survivor leaders with personal experience with CSE as children or youth who provide leadership and consultation to our team, our partners, governmental agencies, community-based organizations and other stakeholders.

The CSEC Action Team brings together individuals with lived experience, advocates, community based organizations, and public agencies from across California to turn knowledge into action — working collectively to prevent and address the commercial sexual exploitation (CSE) of children and youth. NCYL’s Kate Walker Brown co-chairs the Action Team and NCYL’s CRCSE team manages the Action Team’s quarterly capacity and awareness building opportunities.

The CSEC Action Team Advisory Board, now in its ninth year, provides expert guidance to stakeholders working to improve services for youth and families impacted by Commercial Sexual Exploitation (CSE) across California. Board members advise on policies, prevention and intervention strategies, housing, training, and more, ensuring systems center the voices and leadership of those with lived experience. While on the Board, members receive professional development training and coaching. Additionally, they have a space to connect, grow, and heal.
