Fostering Parenthood the Podcast
Reimagining “The Talk” with caregivers and foster youth
This groundbreaking podcast released by NCYL's Reproductive Health Equity Project (RHEP), explores important topics impacting caregivers and youth today including consent, healthy relationships, sexual orientation, trauma, and foster youth rights. Its production was spurred by an expressed need from foster caregivers for more information and support empowering their youth throughout their sexual and reproductive health journeys.
Fostering Parenthood is the first podcast of its kind, offering listeners:
- Real experiences: Caregivers share their first hand experiences navigating sexual and reproductive health issues with their youth.
- Special guests: Host Dorothy Daniels, foster parent and Executive Director of Fostering UNITY, speaks with guests with both lived experience and professional training in child welfare and sexual and reproductive health. Some episodes feature youth formerly and currently in foster care, who share their thoughts on what would have been supportive and beneficial for them. Other episodes feature caregivers with lived experience parenting foster youth.
- Tools and resources: Each episode features three tools, tips, or resources that caregivers can utilize and implement in their everyday lives.
