NCYL Files Flores Brief with Ninth Circuit
NCYL and co-counsel filed a brief in the Ninth Circuit January 21 as part of our ongoing efforts to combat the Administration's attempts to undermine the Flores Settlement Agreement and the protections it provides to all children in federal immigration custody. In September 2019, Federal District Court Judge Gee upheld the Flores Settlement Agreement in a strongly worded opinion that blocked the government from enacting its new DHS and HHS regulations. The government appealed this decision to the Ninth Circuit in November 2019, and the Flores team has worked tirelessly to prepare the answering brief. NCYL will continue to defend the Flores Settlement Agreement from this attack and to advocate for the fair treatment of all children detained in federal immigration custody.
