What did you do at NCYL?

I supported NCYL’s litigation against the Antioch Unified School District (AUSD) while I was a junior attorney at Morrison & Foerster in 2018.

What is your favorite memory of working with NCYL?

Working with Michael Harris. He is a wonderful person and I consider him a true mentor for me. He went out of his way to help the junior MoFo attorneys build our skills base. He really cared about our development. The most memorable part of the AUSD case was going to depositions together. He was so composed, calm, and patient. I think every attorney would look up to and respect him. I was afraid of public speaking and he helped me with that fear.

Why you donate to NCYL?

NCYL’s focus on helping the nation’s youth is something I don’t see many other organization’s focus on. Also, when I was in law school, I would go into juvenile justice centers and teach youth about their rights. One of the stories we used as an example to give people in the juvenile justice system hope actually works at NCYL now: Frankie Guzman, Senior Director of the Youth Justice Initiative. Michael even introduced me to him one day when I was in NCYL’s office. It was inspiring for me to meet the person who was inspiring others.
