The Door v. Edlow
In October 2026, the National Center for Youth Law and co-counsel National Immigration Law Center (NILC), Center for Gender and Refugee Studies (CGRS), and Trial Impact Project (TIP) filed The Door v. Edlow, which challenges the government’s broad attempts to rush the deportation of unaccompanied children in violation of their civil rights and child protection laws passed by Congress.
The case was filed on behalf of six legal service providers — The Door, Amica Center for Immigrant Rights, Florence Immigrant and Refugee Rights Project, Galveston-Houston Immigrant Representation Project, Immigrant Defenders Law Center, and Jewish Family and Community Services — who represent unaccompanied children in their immigration proceedings and their child clients.
The complaint, filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland, argues that U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR) are illegally dismantling the rights of unaccompanied immigrant children seeking safety and denying them a fair chance to request protection in the United States.
