The Position

Development Team 

The Development Team’s mission is to ensure that NCYL has the financial resources needed to pursue its mission and vision, and to uphold NCYL’s inclusive, youth-centered, strengths-based, and equity-focused values in all fundraising efforts and activities. NCYL’s Development Team is raising $20M+ annually from foundations, government agencies, corporations, law firms, and individuals. We inspire NCYL supporters and educate them about NCYL’s values, impact, and work; we build community and nurture strong relationships among NCYL board members, staff, alumni, and supporters through fundraising efforts. 

 

Position 

The Development Associate will work as part of a close-knit team to help secure funding for NCYL’s high-impact system reform projects. This position plays a key role in ensuring the growth and sustainability of our organization through project management, donor communications, prospect research, and record keeping.  This is a great opportunity for someone interested in the behind-the-scenes work that is essential to maintaining an effective and efficient non-profit fundraising program. 

 

This is a temporary, full-time, non-exempt position. The temporary employee could be considered for a permanent role after evaluation of team needs and other conditions, including organizational funds and employee performance. 

 
Essential Functions 

  • Aid in managing grant proposal and report deadlines while coordinating grant application and report submissions across campaigns. Troubleshoot foundation portals as needed. 

  • Process and record the receipt of new contracts and grant agreements in NCYL’s database.  

  • Create and implement strategies and messaging to engage donors and foundation partners, drafting acknowledgement letters as needed. 

  • Support strategy and implementation of NCYL’s annual end of year giving campaign, major donor campaign, and law firm giving campaign. 

  • Research new funding opportunities to assess alignment with NCYL goals and create prospect lists for specific issue areas, campaigns, and geographies. 

  • Assist with drafting and creating fundraising-related social media content. 

  • Maintain NCYL’s tracking system of grants, contracts, and individual and corporate contributions. 

  • Lead data entry and manage data accuracy and integrity in NCYL’s Salesforce system.  

 

Qualifications 

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working at a nonprofit organization. 

  • Preference for candidates with experience utilizing Salesforce and/or other CRMs.  

  • Preference for candidates with non-profit fundraising experience. 

  • Demonstrated commitment to the youth rights issues that NCYL stands for. 

  • Exceptional attention to detail and project management skills. 

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities. 

  • Experience with MS Office software suite (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) or similar applications. 

 
Physical Requirements 

Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. This position may require some travel. 

 

Salary, Benefits, and Location 

This is a temporary, full-time, non-exempt position. Salary is competitive at $69,364.00 annually. A geographic salary differential may be applied if the candidate resides somewhere other than the Oakland, CA, Los Angeles, CA, New York City, or Washington, DC metro areas. This means that the salary would be reduced if the candidate resides in an area where the cost of labor is less than that of the San Francisco Bay Area. 

 

Temporary employees are not eligible for any NCYL benefits other than those required by law. Candidates must reside in, or be willing to relocate to, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, New York, Oregon, Virginia, Washington DC, or Wisconsin.
