Good day,

Many of you participated in the CSEC Workgroup of the California Child Welfare Council, and were integral in the creation and publication of the report, “Ending the Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children: A Call for Multi-System Collaboration in California.” We truly appreciate all of the time and energy you contributed over the past year.

Due to the efforts of the Workgroup, the Child Welfare Council recently adopted the recommendations from the report, as well as the Commercially Sexually Exploited Children (CSEC)Action Project Plan . The Project Plan will be implemented and overseen by the CSEC Action Team, which will be co-chaired by Diana Dooley, Secretary of Health and Human Services, and Leslie Heimov, Executive Director of the Children’s Law Center of California. The Action Team will operate under the auspices of the Council.

Moving forward, the CSEC Workgroup will no longer exist. Workgroup members as well as other individuals are encouraged to submit applications or nominations to participate on the CSEC Action Team. Membership on the Action Team will include state and local government agency leaders, CSEC service providers, CSEC survivors, youth, CSEC advocates, court representatives, and other stakeholders. The Action Team will further develop and implement the recommendations adopted by the Council. Members will be expected to attend quarterly, in-person meetings, and be prepared to do work between the meetings on one of the four priority area committees (outlined in the Project Plan).

Attached is an application for membership on the Action Team. Please provide any information that demonstrates your interest and commitment in working with advocates and providers from throughout the state to improve the response to commercially sexually exploited children. Applications are due by August 6, 2013.

Over the next several weeks, the Co-Chairs will review applications. A decision will be made shortly thereafter. If you are not selected for the Action Team, you are encouraged to participate in the committees that will inform the work of the Action Team.

We look forward to working together.

Secretary Diana S. Dooley & Leslie Heimov

Co-Chairs of the Statewide CSEC Action Team
