Consent to Medical Treatment for Foster Children: California Law

Children entering foster care often have significant health needs. When children are in foster care, the state has a responsibility to ensure they receive appropriate medical services. Health care clinicians cannot provide medical care, however, without first obtaining consent from the appropriate individual. This document explains the medical consent rules that apply when children enter the juvenile dependency system in California.
