NCYL Welcomes Attorney Susan Huang

Susan Huang

Susan Huang

Susan Huang has joined NCYL as a volunteer attorney working on the Center’s Juvenile Mental Health Court Initiative. Specifically, Susan is helping draft an amended protocol for Alameda County’s Juvenile Collaborative Court. The protocol is intended to serve as a model for other jurisdictions interested in establishing a mental health court. The goal of these courts is to divert mentally ill youth from detention by providing them with better access to necessary services and community support.

Before joining NCYL, Susan was an associate in the San Francisco office of Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe, LLP. She specialized in public finance, assisting counties, cities, school districts, and other local government entities obtain funds for public works projects through municipal bond sales. While at Orrick, Susan also dedicated hundreds of hours to a variety of pro bono projects through direct services and policy advocacy.

Susan graduated cum laude from Northwestern University School of Law in 2005.  She was a member of the Northwestern Law Review and President of Student Effort to Rejuvenate Volunteering.  Prior to law school, Susan was a client advocate with the Volunteer Legal Services Program of the Bar Association of San Francisco, helping obtain legal services for low-income clients. Susan is a 2000 graduate of Stanford University, where she majored in Human Biology.
