Planned Parenthood v. Van de Kamp

A California appellate court rejected a statutory interpretation by the state’s Attorney General that would have required health care providers to report every case of voluntary sexual activity by a minor under age 14 to child welfare or law enforcement authorities as sexual abuse, regardless of the age of the minor’s partner. In doing so, the court affirmed that minors in California have a right to privacy that is protected under the state constitution.
